Our sweet 4yr old niece, Annie.
I love babies, toddlers and little kids. I always have. I love their simple enjoyment of life and their honest expressions of happiness or sadness. I am so thankful to work with such sweet ones all day long. I learn so much from them. Sean and I are also so blessed to have 13 of our own little nieces, nephews and baby cousins, all under 7 years old!
One of my very favorite things about kids is their never-ending curiosity and their deep sense of awe and wonder at the tiniest things... things that we take for granted as adults... a tiny ladybug can suddenly become the most exciting and fascinating thing in the world to a two year old. I love this! Not only are they fabulous explorers, but they are incessant question-askers! I smiled as I was reminded of this while reading my friend's blog...
According to research, "children ask 125 probing questions per day. Adults on the other hand, ask only a half dozen probing questions every day. That means that somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we lose 119 questions per day... Unfortunately, at some point in our lives, most of us stop asking questions and start making assumptions. " "Wild Goose Chase" (76-77)
This is so true. Kids are like little sponges, hungry to retain all the knowledge and information about the world that we will share with them. I want to come back to this childlike awe and question-asking... to really ask the deep questions and enjoy the answers as they come... watching my world expand, just like they do.
